Chaos erupted in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as BJP councillors staged a protest against proposals set to be discussed during the session.
The contentious topic at hand was the transfer of power from the standing committee to the general house on a temporary basis and pending formation of the committee.
Before the session could officially commence, chaos ensued, resulting in its swift adjournment.
An hour prior, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Raja Iqbal Singh and BJP councillors submitted a letter to the Mayor, urging a reconsideration of the proposal.
The LoP emphasized the constitutional obligations of the party and expressed concern about the sanctity of the Municipal Corporation's constitution.
Following a four-hour drama, two proposals, including the transfer of power from the standing committee to the house and the de-sealing of shops at local shopping complexes were passed amidst the chaos.
Singh disclosed that BJP councillors had met with the Commissioner of MCD, submitting a memorandum urging the withdrawal of the perceived "unlawful" agenda.
Faced with apparent helplessness from the Commissioner, the party opted to register a protest, preventing the Mayor from introducing the agenda.
Singh accused the AAP of obstructing the formation of ward committees and the election of the Standing Committee to maintain control over crucial positions.
Jitender Kumar Kochar, former Leader of the House in MCD and Congress In Charge in MCD, allegedly accused the ruling party of undermining the functionality of the MCD.
Congress leader Nazia Danish lamented the governance halt in the MCD, attributing it to the absence of a Standing Committee.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva condemned the AAP and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing them of undermining the constitutional sanctity of Delhi Assembly House and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi General House.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Anuj Attrey highlighted the undue delay in MCD projects and schemes. He criticised the ruling party for failing to fulfil its poll promises of transparent and democratic functioning.
