Rs 240 cr Mahabharata-theme Jyotisar project opened

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Mahabharata-themed Jyotisar interpretation centre project from Rewari. Although the project is yet to be completed, two of the five galleries were opened today. An estimated Rs 240 crore is to be spent on the project.

Union Minister of State for Tourism Ajay Bhatt and Haryana Tourism Minister Kanwar Pal were present on the occasion in Jyotisar.

Ajay Bhatt said: “To preserve the heritage and culture of the country, the Jyotisar interpretation centre project was given to Kurukshetra. The government has been promoting Kurukshetra and the Gita at the world level.”

In his address, the minister highlighted key decisions like Article 370 abrogation and Ram temple inauguration taken by the Modi-led government. He said: “All countries are praising India for its development over the last decade.”

Haryana Tourism Minister Kanwar Pal said: “Jyotisar is being developed as a major religious tourist destination. Two galleries of the interpretation centre have been prepared and latest technologies have been used to depict stories of the Mahabharata.”

Minister Ajay Bhatt handed over pension certificates to 588 beneficiaries and cheques to eight beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana on the occasion.

Principal Secretary of state Tourism Department, MD Sinha, said: “The Jyotisar project will be a centre of attraction in Kurukshetra.”

Thanesar MLA Subhash Sudha, Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma, Chairman of 48-Kos Tirtha Monitoring Committee Madan Mohan Chhabra and others were also present on the occasion.

Executive Engineer Gautam Kumar said: “Visitors will get to know about the Kuru Vansh and get introduced to the Mahabharata in the first gallery and at the second gallery; they will be informed about what led to the Mahabharata. Stories related to Draupadi and other important characters will also be touched upon.”

Kumar added: “Augmented reality, artificial intelligence, holographic images and other latest technologies will be used for the same. A war zone was also conceptualised and its building is also ready. More elements will be added over the next couple of months and the visitors will get a new experience here.”
