Karnal: Partap Public School, Sector 6, organised the annual prize distribution function—merit eve-2019— with great zeal. A cultural programme also marked the event. Karnal MP Sanjay Bhatia was the chief guest. President of the school management Ajay Bhatia and management secretary Sanjay Bhatia were present. Management awarded a cash prize of Rs21,000 to Vaasu, a district topper in Commerce Stream in class XII board exams-2019. Director-principal Poonam Nevit and principal Puja Waalia Mann encouraged students to achieve their targets with dedication.

LECTURES ON MODERN LITERATURE

Sonepat: Saikat Majumdar of Ashoka University, Sonepat, delivered two lectures on topics 'what defines modern literature' and 'creative process' in the ongoing refresher course in English. Human Resource Development Centre of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan, is conducting the course. Majumdar said the word modern was relational and modernism had given art its own space. He termed novel as "real" and poetry as an "act of intense emotion". He described creative writings as the most academic of arts and termed the ancient art of rhetoric as a creative process. Course coordinator Shalini said the participating teachers were being exposed to advanced knowledge in the domain of English and literature.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AWARD HELD

Karnal: In the International School Awards (ISA) 2019 by the British Council, Mount Litera Zee School's principal Deep Bedi, along with ISA coordinator Amita Sharma, were awarded. The principal was acknowledged for her efforts to bring in an international dimension to the curriculum. Also, Sharma's work was acknowledged for coordinating with the school and helping it incorporate the international dimension through various ISA activities. They also attended a panel discussion on "how can we prepare our students for an uncertain future?" by Ritika Chanda Parruk, assistant director at British Council.

INTER-SQUADRON DEBATE

Karnal: Alfa and Bravo Squadron proved their mettle in an Inter-Squadron debate competition held in the premises of Gurukul Kurukshetra. Surpassing Bravo Squadron, Alfa Squadron of NDA wing of Gurukul Kurukshetra won the overall championship. Col Arun Datta, director of Gurukul, lauded the efforts of instructor SK Mohanti and Balwan Singh for preparing the aspirants of NDA. He said experts conducted a 10-day SSB training camp to provide services to the Army. HoD of English Subey Pratap and Dinesh Rana adjudged the competition.

ANNUAL FUNCTION HELD

Kaithal: Karan Public School, Hansi Road, Karnal, organised its annual function. Gharaunda MLA Harvinder Kalyan inaugurated the function and encouraged students to participate in all activities. The students participated in many cultural activities. He encouraged them to set a target in their lives and work with dedication to achieve it. He gave away prizes to the students.

CLEANLINESS DRIVE LAUNCHED

Kaithal: The NCC cadets of Dyal Singh Public School, main branch, and SBS School launched a cleanliness drive at Karan Park. The drive was carried out under the aegis of seventh state battalion NCC. Col Sandeep Nain, wing commander, inaugurated the drive and urged the cadets to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings. NCC is the largest organisation of the country, which has around 15 lakh cadets, who fight against social evils.
