Chandigarh, February 10
Following the farmers’ “Delhi Chalo” call, the Haryana Government has suspended mobile internet services, bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice calls, in the territorial jurisdiction of districts of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa.
The order will remain in force from 6 am on February 11 to 11:59 pm of February 13.
The order, issued by Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary, Home, TVSN Prasad, on Saturday said that there is an apprehension of causing tension, annoyance, agitation, damage of public and private property and disturbance of public peace and tranquillity in the above-mentioned districts.
It added that internet services could be misused “by way of the spread of inflammatory material and false rumours, which are being/could be transmitted/circulated to the public through social media/messaging services on mobile internet services, SMS services and other dongle services”.
Individual SMS, mobile recharge, banking SMS, voice calls, internet services provided by broadband and lease lines of corporate and domestic households are however exempted, the order said.
