Karnal, November 19
Health services in Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) were affected for around five hours on Monday as resident doctors went on strike after attendants of a patient allegedly misbehaved with a surgeon.
They demanded that security in the hospital should be beefed up. After Dr Surinder Kashyap, Director, KCGMCH, assured doctors of deploying a PCR van near the emergency ward, they called off the strike.
Surgeon Dr Shalinder told the media three persons came to the emergency ward on November 15 with a patient. On some issue, they started misbehaving with him and manhandled him, he alleged.
“On the complaint of a doctor, a case has been registered against three persons under Sections 332 and 353 of the IPC. The accused have been arrested,” said Mohan Lal, SHO, Civil Lines police station.
The family of the accused has filed a police complaint, accusing the surgeon of not taking the patient seriously. Sources say one of accused was filming the incident on his mobile phone when doctors snatched the handset.
