Solan, February 12

A team of Parwanoo police arrested a couple for duping a Shimla resident of Rs 70,000. The complainant, Rahul Thakur, stated that he had befriended a girl on a dating app (Tinder).

The duo decided to meet at a park in Sector 4 area of Parwanoo on January 30, but the girl did not come and Rahul was accosted by two youth who forcibly hurled him into a vehicle at gunpoint and took him towards Kasauli road. They robbed him of Rs 70,000 and fled.

The Parwanoo police registered a case under Sections 387 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 390 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code, and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

“While probing the case the Parwanoo police arrested Pankaj Kumar (25) of Rajasthan and his wife Puja (24) of Abohar on February 9. The weapon used in the crime and five live cartridges have been seized. A laptop has also been seized along with their mobile phones,” said Solan SP Gaurav Singh.

The suspects were produced before a local court which remanded them to five days in police remand and their accomplice was yet to be apprehended.
