Four buried alive, five hurt in landslide at Kullu village

KULLU: Four persons were buried alive while five others suffered injuries when boulders fell on their vehicle at Manihar village in the Garsa valley today.

Four persons were buried alive while five others suffered injuries when boulders fell on their vehicle at Manihar village in the Garsa valley today.

The victims were on their way to the Parbati hydel project site when the accident occurred.

The deceased have been identified as Laxman (38), Nanda from Jharkhand, Khem Raj (50) from Nepal, while Sugrin Gupta (29) from Bihar is still trapped under the debris.

Sources said boulders fell on the vehicle carrying nine persons. Two victims escaped with minor injuries while three others are critical. Bhupender Negi from Uttarakhand and Khem Singh from Sundernagar were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rohit Rathor said the bodies had been recovered and efforts were on to trace the victim trapped under the debris. He said the rescue operation would resume tomorrow. Kullu Deputy Commissioner Hans Raj Chauhan said Rs 15,000 each had been provided to the victims as relief. He said Prakash and Pramod, both from Uttarakhand, and Dharmender from Bihar were admitted to the Regional Hospital, Kullu.
