Shimla, April 19

Seventh State Finance Commission Chairman Nand Lal and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mohan Lal Brakta today asked the BJP leaders to tell people about their contribution at the time of the natural disaster last year.

Created hurdles

Deserting people of the state during the disaster was BJP’s biggest achievement. The BJP leaders kept creating hurdles in the way of getting assistance from the Centre. — The congress leaders

During the disaster, the BJP leaders kept demanding that the Assembly session be convened. But when the proposal was moved in the Assembly to declare the calamity as a national disaster, no BJP MLA stood with people of the state, the duo said.

They said deserting people of the state during the disaster was the “biggest achievement” of the BJP. Besides, the BJP leaders kept creating hurdles in the way of the state government getting assistance from the Centre, alleged the duo.

On the contrary, they said, the state government offered a special package of Rs 4,500 crore from its limited resources to help the people. The state government changed the rules to provide relief to the affected families. Without the help of the Central Government, the state government increased the assistance amount for completely damaged houses from Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, said the duo.

They added that the state government made arrangements to ensure the apple produce reached the market in time despite the broken and obstructed roads. The Chief Minister visited affected areas and gave impetus to the relief and rescue operations, while the BJP leaders kept doing mere politics, accused the duo.
