Shivratri fair from March 5

The International Shivratri Fair will start on March 5 in which 216 deities of Mandi district will congregate in Mandi to join the weeklong fair. The deity society will spread the message of “save girl child and educate them” during the fair.

Shivpal Sharma, president of the Kardar Sangh, Mandi, said, “We have decided to organise ‘kanya pujan’ (worship of girl child) at Seri Manch to motivate the common man to shun female foeticide. Pamphlets and posters will be displayed at the venue for the purpose,” he said. “Deities of the Chohar valley will display Dev Khel at Seri Manch and Dev Nati at Padgal Ground. Preparations are under way for the success of the event. We have demanded an increase in the quantity of firewood for those deities, who will be accompanied by devotees,” he added. The main attraction is the procession of chief deity Madho Rai. — TNS
