Jammu, February 18
A total of 12 vehicles, including two JCB machines, involved in illegal mining have been seized in Kathua and Samba. Acting on a complaint lodged by a local person regarding illegal mining and excavation at Bhagtali areas, a team of the Geology and Mining Department rushed to the spot and impounded five vehicles and two JCBs. It was found that the JCB machines were excavating earth from Bhagtali to make its further transportation in industrial areas with the help of tractor trollies in violation of rules. Later, two Punjab-based dumpers were also seized for illegal transportation of mineral in Keedian Gandyal areas near Shree Ram stone crusher which were moving towards Gurdaspur areas.
Kathua Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas has already instructed the Geology and Mining Department to take stern action against the violators.
Meanwhile, the Samba police seized three vehicles which were being used for transportation/mining of the construction material.
