GCW Parade students allege irregularities in Sem IV results

Students of the Government College for Women (GCW), Parade, on Monday held a protest against the college authorities, alleging “irregularities” in recently declared results of Semester-IV of undergraduate courses.

The protesting students alleged that the college authorities had deliberately failed a maximum number of students who appeared in the income tax examination of the Semester-IV “to generate revenue” through examination fee for the college.

Sanpreet Kour, a student, said, “The college authorities have deliberately failed over 250 girls out of 390 who appeared in the income tax exam of the fourth semester, but the most astonishing thing was that they even passed some girls who were absent and failed those who appeared in the exam.”

“We have time and again taken up this issue with the higher authorities, but they are adamant and not ready to listen to us and asking students to file RTIs if they are not satisfied with the results. We want the college authorities should declare revised results and remove the controller of examinations and conduct investigation through an independent agency,” she said.

However, the college authorities rejected all the allegations being levelled by the protesting students and claimed that the results were “fair” and “transparent”.

“The overall pass percentage (of the examination) has remained 48 per cent and the allegations of handful students are purely baseless as they are pressuring the authorities to pass them in the examination. We have proper system of examination. We are trying to satisfy the students to follow a proper procedure and go for RTI if they think they are genuine and injustice has been done to them,” said a senior facility member of the college.

Today, a large number of students boycotted their classes and hit the streets outside thecollege and blocked the normal traffic movement for several hours. The students alleged that no one from college authorities came to listen to their demands. The college authorities at a meeting held on January 14 had unanimously decided that there was no provision for the revision of results and institution could not go for the revision of results.
