Farmers can use paddy stubble as feed for animals: Hoshiarpur DC

HOSHIARPUR: Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal today said farmers could use paddy stubble as feed for animals.

Hoshiarpur, October 13

Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal today said farmers could use paddy stubble as feed for animals. He said the stubble could easily be disposed of and animals could get good nutritional feed.

The DC added that farmers into dairy farming were getting benefits by following the method. He said at this time, farmers use dry fodder as feed which costs Rs 350 per quintal and if the stubble was used, it costs just Rs 100 per quintal.

The DC said, “According to the Punjab Pollution Control Board, 2,856 kg carbon dioxide, 120 kg carbon monoxide, 4 kg sulphur dioxide and 6 kg pollution are emitted from stubble burning in one acre. These emissions are very harmful for human life. There were many ways to manage stubble burning. But using it as fodder is the cheapest mean for farmers. For three animals, three acres of stubble is used and the nutritional value of stubble is equal to that of the other crops.”

He added that as per experts, the harvested stubble should be stored within two to 10 days so that it’s taste-worthy for the animal. After shredding stubble into pieces, it should be mixed with animal feed, the DC said. — OC
