Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked a person on the charge of attacking a police official. Investigating officer (IO) Balvir Chand said the suspect had been identified as Gursewak Singh, a resident of Data village falling under the Mehanna police station, Moga. The IO said Assistant Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh, in his statement to the police, stated that he was deployed at a hi-tech naka at Kanwan Wala Patann on January 10. The suspect, who was driving his car negligently, coming from the Dharam Kot side hit him with an intention to kill him and obstructed him from performing his duty. A case has been registered. OC
Bag with cash, mobile stolen
Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have booked unidentified persons on the charge of stealing cash. Charanjit Singh, a resident of Shankar village, complained to the police that while returning from Shahkot after delivering parcels, he stopped at the Bal Hukami bus stand on December 30. He parked his motorcycle with a parcel bag and cash bag outside a public bathroom and went inside. When he returned, he found the cash bag containing Rs 24,000 and a mobile phone missing. Investigating officer Rannjit Singh said a case had been registered. OC
2 POs land in police net
Phagwara: The Mehat Pur police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), who was absconding for the past nine years. Investigating officer (IO) Harwinder Singh said the accused had been identified as Harjinder Singh, a resident of Rai Pur Araian village. The IO said he was wanted in a case of drug peddling registered in 2015. The police also arrested another PO, Daljit Singh, alias Sonu, a resident of Bhode village falling under the Bilga police station. He was wanted in a case of theft. OC
Drug peddler arrested
Phagwara: The police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered 900 grams of ganja from his possession on Friday night. The suspect, identified as Sachin, a resident of Hoshiarpur, was nabbed at a checkpoint. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspect. OC
2 booked on fraud charge
Phagwara: The police have booked two persons on fraud charge. The suspects have been identified as Tersem Masih and Shani Masih, residents of Fatehgarh Churrian, Batala. Acting on a complaint lodged by Munna Lal, a resident of Chachoki village near Phagwara, the police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC against the suspects. No arrest has been made so far. OC
Man nabbed for theft bid
Phagwara: A person was caught red-handed while attempting to steal goods from a godown of engine parts firm here on Friday night. Factory owner Naresh Kumar, who managed to nab the suspect, handed him over to the police. The suspect has been identified as Manpreet, a resident of Chachoki village near Phagwara. A case has been registered.
