The Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM) today organised a meeting with farmers from the Doaba region to discuss benefits of organic farming. Members associated with the mission said a person associated with the medical profession attended the meeting and had shown interest in organic farming.

“People from different professions like doctors, pharmacists, or from other sectors have started showing interest in organic farming. They have started thinking that there is no way out than organic farming to protect one from deadly diseases spreading fast in the society,” said Pankaj Jain, one of the prominent members of the Kheti Virasat Mission.

“The inclination is being observed towards, kitchen gardening and other activities that deals with organic farming,” said Jain.

A Jalandhar-based police personnel while talking to The Tribune said that he had learnt new techniques at the KVM workshop and would implement in his land where his father had been doing farming.

“My father has always remained inclined towards nature. But still, we have not adopted organic farming properly. Once I get retired, I will adopt it in a true manner and it will be 100 per cent natural. I know that how pesticides and chemicals have been destroying our health, so it is important that everyone adopts organic farming,” he said.

Hoshiarpur’s woman farmer

The fear of cancer has forced a woman farmer from Hoshiarpur to switch to organic farming. It was around a few years ago when Manjit Kaur (54), a farmer from a small village in Hoshiarpur got to know that her daughter was suffering from cancer. This shocking revelation moved her life upside down and when doctors told her that adulterated food and chemical-laced crops are the main reason behind the disease, she then shunned chemicals and adopted natural farming. Manjit Kaur said since then she had been entered into the organic farming business and most of her customers were those suffering from the deadly disease.
