Jalandhar, November 14
The remand of the two Kashmiri students, Fazil Bashar (23) and Shahid Qayoom (22), has been extended by further three days.
The two students were among the four persons who allegedly carried out the Maqsudan police station bomb blast and were arrested on November 4. However, even after 10 days of their arrest, the police could not locate the whereabouts of their accomplices, Mir Ravoof Ahmed, alias Rouf, and Mir Umar Ramzan, alias Gazi, who were also booked in the FIR and are absconding. Though the arrested students revealed more information about Amir Jalan, who was equally involved in the case and had handed over the low-intensity explosives to Fazil and Shahid.
Investigation officer ACP Navneet Mahal said the students revealed that Amir was the one who recruited and radicalised them. Notably, he was the classmate of one of these students in senior secondary classes and introduced them to Rouf, Gazi and Zakir Mussa, said Mahal. Moreover, the investigation team, including NIA and IB officials, could not trace another unidentified miscreant, who brought the explosives to Jalandhar from Kashmir.
All six accused are associated with Zakir-led Ansar Ghaz-wat-ul-Hind (AGH), a valley-based terror network having close links with the Jaish-e-Mohammed. A case were registered against them for throwing low-intensity grenades at the Maqsudan police station on September 14. An FIR under Section 307 of the IPC and the Explosives Act was registered against all six accused.
Mahal said: “Whatever plots have been narrated by these students pertained to Kashmir, hence, its taking time for counter verification. In addition, We are looking for bank accounts of these students, so that financial angle could be drawn through the transactions incurred. Also, the search is on for persons or sources who dropped these explosives here.” — TNS
