The Phagwara police have released a photo of a suspect allegedly involved in the murder of a woman on September 18 here.

The Superintendent of Police, Phagwara, Mandeep Dhillon, said today that residents could contact any police officer if somebody recognises the suspect.

The woman, Kuldip Kaur, mother of a 12 year-old-boy, was brutally murdered with sharp weapons at her house in New Sukhchain Nagar here on Wednesday morning.

The deceased, after sending her son Sahildeep to school, was talking to her sister-in-law Kuldip Kaur over mobile phone, when the latter heard her cries. She rushed to her house and saw the victim lying in a pool of blood.

Kuldip Kaur was taken to Gandhi Hospital in a critical condition where she was declared brought dead by doctors. The deceased was staying alone and her husband NRI Narinder Singh was residing in Dubai.

The SHO said the mobile phone of the victim was also found missing after the crime. The police had registered a case under Section 302, Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A hue and cry was witnessed during the cremation of the woman at a crematorium on Banga Road here on Friday. Her husband reached Phagwara last night. Their son Sahildeep lit the pyre. Though SGPC member Sarwan Singh Kular and councillor Kulwinder Singh Kinda attended the cremation along with a large number of residents but not even a single official from the civil or police administration was seen attending the ceremony.
