Cop killed, another injured in militant attack on ex-MLA in Pulwama

ANANTNAG/SRINAGAR: A policeman was killed and another injured in a militant attack in south Kashmir''s Pulwama district on Monday.

A policeman was killed and another injured in a militant attack in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday.  

Police said militants fired indiscriminately at policemen in Muran village at Pulwama district who were accompanying former Rajpora MLA Ghulam Mohiudin.

"The protected person is safe and secure. However, one of his PSOs Mudasir who was from district police has attained martyrdom while the other PSO Nasir from security wing is stable," a police spokesman said.

He said apparently after the firing incident militants snatched the weapons of the policemen.

Police have registered the case and investigation into the instant matter has been initiated.

Based on the initial probe, it is learnt that Zahoor Thokar group of proscribed HM (Hizbul Mujahideen) terror outfit is involved in it, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, two soldiers were injured in a brief gunfight in frontier district of Kupwara in the wee hours on Monday where a massive combing operation is underway. 

The brief gunfight broke when security forces intercepted a group of militants near Batpora forests, in Kupwara, 110 km from Srinagar.
