Sreedharan is Adviser to rapid transport corpns

JAMMU: Clearing the way for the construction of the mass rapid passenger transport systems (MRTCs) in Jammu and Srinagar, the two capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir, the state administration has appointed “Metro Man”, Dr Elattuvalapi Sreedharan, as the Principal Adviser of the MRTCs in J&K.

Clearing the way for the construction of the mass rapid passenger transport systems (MRTCs) in Jammu and Srinagar, the two capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir, the state administration has appointed “Metro Man”, Dr Elattuvalapi Sreedharan, as the Principal Adviser of the MRTCs in J&K.

The State Administrative Council (SAC), led by Governor Satya Pal Malik, had recently approved the setting up of two MRTCs in the state, namely the Jammu Mass Rapid Transit Corporation and the Srinagar Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, to address the issue of urban mobility in the state to bring mono rails or metro network on the pattern of New Delhi.

“The detailed project report (DPR) has been formulated and only Dr Sreedharan has the expertise and capability to implement the plans. His appointment will give the impetus to efforts of the state government,” said Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of the two MRTCs.

The two corporations will plan and build urban mobility transport in the state to provide reliable and sustainable multi-modal public transport systems that are well integrated, providing seamless travel and introduce intelligent transport systems for traffic management.

Having vast experience in the implementation of MRTCs in India, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan Dr Elattuvalapil Sreedharan, a retired IES (IRSE) officer is popularly known as “Metro man”. He had played an important role in building Konkan Railway and the Delhi Metro and was appointed by the former UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-Moon to serve on the United Nations High Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Transport (HLAG-ST) for a period of three years in 2015.

‘Metro Man’ with rich experience 

Having vast experience in the implementation of MRTCs in India, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr Elattuvalapil Sreedharan, a retired IES (IRSE) officer is popularly known as “Metro Man”.
