Nine-year-old KamaliMoorthy turned into a global sensation with her astonishing skateboarding skills. This wonder girl came into limelight when she caught the eye of Tony Hawk, a renowned skateboarder. Her story inspired New Zealand filmmaker Sasha Rainbow and she decided to create a short about on the little skateboarding legend, titled Kamali, which has now been shortlisted for the 2020 Oscar Awards.
The short film is centred around the story of Suganthi, Kamali's single mother, who is stuck in a traditional Indian society and sells fish to support her family. However, she doesn't let society stop her nine-year daughter Kamali from dreaming big and supports her to become a champion.
