Having started his career with Punjabi videos, Angad Hasija is back to his hometown Chandigarh after 15 years to star in a Punjabi show. Playing the character of JD in Tera Rang Chadiya, Angad is happy reorganising his personal and professional life amid the pandemic. Early morning workouts, shoots followed with family time, life’s on a roll.

“I decided to come back to Chandigarh about two months back when Covid-19 cases started to rise in Mumbai. It made sense to be with my family here. Though cases are on the rise here too, but at least houses are big here,” opens up Angad.

It’s for the first time that his entire family is together. “Being together every day feels like a festival.” The actor of saas-bahu shows is that now living with saas-bahu for once. “So far there is no ‘rasode main kaun tha’ scene,” he laughs.

Though offers for Punjabi films and shows have been coming his way, with Zee Punjabi’s Tera Rang Chadiya Angad decided to take the leap. “I play a superstar JD who is full of himself.” Since the character was different from his last, the devout Muslim businessman Arshad Ali Khan in the web series Ishq Aaj Kal, Angad jumped at the opportunity.

“Ishq Aaj Kal has been an amazing journey, not only did I learn Urdu but also how to do namaz. Playing Jimmy Dhillon is a total contrast, but I am up for the challenge.”

While playing a superstar is just fine, brushing up his Punjabi is Angad’s main concern now. Growing up in Chandigarh, strangely he is not well versed with Punjabi. “My mother always spoke to me in Hindi. When I moved to Mumbai most of my directors, co-stars were Punjabi and knowing that I am from Punjab, talked to me in Punjabi. So, it’s rather safe to say I learnt my Punjabi in Mumbai,” he chuckles. Currently, he is trying out the accent. “Getting the accent right is not easy. When I moved to Mumbai, I had to work hard to lose that Punjabi accent when I spoke in Hindi. It’s a reverse journey now!”

Angad has never compromised on his fitness. “Through the lockdown, I have not missed a single day of workout.” Soon after his return to Chandigarh, he set up a gym at the terrace of his house. “I am not the one to sit and get bored. Now that the lockdown gave me time, I took up everything that I couldn’t do all these years.” He started getting up at 4 am. “I would start my day with meditation and workout. I delved deep into spiritual books. Spent the afternoons watching shows and evenings with my mother and brother. I can certainly say there was a lot to catch up on.”

From starring in still popular songs Dele Gehra, Akhan Ch Sharab Goriye to playing JD, the Alekh Rajvansh of Bidaai is enjoying every bit. “Playing this loud Punjabi star with all his bling shling, I am hoping to win the viewers with Tera Rang Chadiya.”
