Annual sports meet held at Sarabha Dental College


Sarabha Dental College organised its annual sports meet. Students and staff members participated in the week-long sports activities with great enthusiasm. Students participated in relay races, athletics events, cricket, volleyball, throw ball, badminton, chess and carom. Chairman Jatinder Singh Grewal said it was important for students to develop sportsmanship spirit to help them to overcome the stress associated with medical profession.

Int’l Oral Surgeons Day observed

Ludhiana: The department of oral surgery of Desh Bhagat Dental College and Hospital International observed Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day. Chancellor Zora Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Saurabh Bidhar from Lakshmi Bai Dental College, Patiala, and Dr Sumit Kochhar from Adesh University, Bathinda, were the keynote speakers. They told students about various career opportunities in the field of dental care. They also highlighted the carelessness of people in regards to their dental health. Zora Singh said the need of the hour was to educate people about the role, importance and responsibilities of doctors in society.

PIFT wins cash prizes in design contest

Parnamika, Tamanna, Savita and Lavleen, postgraduate students at Pinnacle Institute of Fashion Technology (PIFT) participated in Anchor Design Awards organised by Anchor Thread Company, Mudurai. Students from across the country participated in the event. Savita and Lavleen have been shortlisted for the second round on the basis of the garments made by them with 100 per cent Anchor threads. They have also won a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each. The principal congratulated the students.

A Trip down memory lane

Kamla Lohtia SD College organised its third alumni meet – Connections 2020 on the campus. Sanjay Kaushik, dean, College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the chief guest on the occasion. Principal Mukesh Kumar Mahajan gave the welcome address and highlighted the accomplishments of the alumni in their respective fields Kaushik, who also had been a faculty at the college, talked about the significant contribution made by the institution in shaping the career and future of students. He motivated the alumni to reciprocate by contributing positively to the growth and welfare of society.

Awareness seminar on cancer

The department of BVoc (Hospital Administration and Management) of Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women organised a health seminar on ‘Cancer screening and cancer control programme’. Yaveesh Kashyap from operations department, Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula, was the speaker of the day. The seminar was organised to create awareness among students to contribute their bit towards the fight against cancer. He motivated the students to stay healthy and shared his views on cancer and its prevention.

3 KCW students win scholarships

The Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council, India, in association with the Sikh Human Development Foundation (SHDF), US, awarded SHDF scholarships 2019 to students pursuing professional diploma, degree in postgraduate courses from recognised institutions and universities in India. Three students from the Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd qualified the written test and interview and have been selected for the scholarship. The students, who have been selected, are Amritpal Kaur (BCA-I), Kamaljit Kaur (BCA-II) and Parvinder Kaur (MSc IT). They will get Rs 29,000, Rs 24,000 and Rs 30,000, respectively, from the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council. Principal Rajwinder Kaur Hundal congratulated the students and wished them luck for future endeavours.

Group discussion on self-culture

A group discussion on the book ‘Hints for Self-Culture’ by Lala Hardayal was held at Arya College. An essay competition on ‘Rebels who wrote history’ with particular reference to the Ghadar Party movement was also organised. Principal Savita Uppal laid emphasis on how India followed the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and believed in the concept of non-violence and Satyagraha. The nation should also remember the sacrifices of the youth who took to the path of armed revolt against foreign rule, she added. A video on the martyrs of the Ghadar Party was also screened. The winners of the competitions were awarded with a copy of ‘Hints for Self-Culture’. TNS
