As choked sewers is a major problem in various wards of the city, a member of the District Ludhiana West Sub-Division Grievances Redressal Committee has written to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Local Bodies Minister Brahm Mohindra in this regard.
The accumulated water due to overflowing sewers gave an open invitation to diseases. The responsibility of officials concerned should be fixed and they should keep a check on blocked sewer lanes.
Satish Thaman (77) has demanded that blocked sewers of the city must be cleared at the earliest. He demanded from the government to upgrade the sewerage treatment plants and make provision of rainwater harvesting outlets in all 95 wards of the city.
He demanded that the responsibility of officials concerned should be fixed and they should keep a check on blocked sewer lanes. The accumulated water due to overflowing sewers gave an open invitation to diseases, he added.
It is pertinent to mention that the overflowing sewers in various parts of Dhandari Khurd, Prem Nagar, Durga Colony, Giaspura and several areas on Bahadur Ke Road, Rahon Road, Tajpur Road, among others, have been causing troubles for residents for a long time. Overflowing water flows into vehras and private properties in several areas too.
Some councillors have also raised the issue of overflowing sewers in the MC House meetings.
The councillors are also demanding from the civic body to ensure proper functioning of the sewerage system to avoid any disease outbreak in affected areas.
