Ludhiana, February 16

The CCTV footage of the attack on Puneet Bains, alias Mani, of Labour Colony, by two Youth Congress leaders and their accomplices shows how brutally they thrashed the victim with baseball bats, iron rods and other weapons. The Youth Congress leaders, who were recently elected, were not covering their faces while assaulting the victim.

On the night of February 11, two leaders, namely Shubham Arora and Ankit Sharma, who are presidents of the Youth Congress from Central and East, respectively, along with their accomplices attacked a youth.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Moti Nagar police station against Shubham Arora of Madhopuri, Ankit Sharma of Tibba Road, Sandeep of Bhamian Road, Nannu of Dharampura, Nihal, JP and seven unknown persons.

Although the police refused to share the CCTV footage, citing the ongoing investigation and technical evidence, The Tribune managed to access it.

At 11.40 pm on Tuesday night when Puneet, along with his friends, came out of the Indian Summer restaurant, armed Congress leaders came in a Fortuner and a Scorpio. They cornered Puneet and started attacking him with baseball bats, iron rods, swords, etc. Puneet’s friends ran for their lives.

Kin alleges political pressure on cops

Kamlesh, mother of the victim, said Shubham had old enmity with her son as earlier also he, along with his aides, had attempted to kill her son. “If Congress Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh cannot control his Youth Congress leaders, they should be shunted out. Owing to interference by politicians, the assailants are still at large,” she said.

Victim thrashed for 10 minutes

The CCTV footage shows assailants continuously beat the victim for about 10 minutes, even after he fell unconscious in a pool of blood. The Congress leaders felt no mercy as they hit the victim with baseball bats on the legs, arms and head.

Justice will be delivered: CP

Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal said justice would be delivered to the victim and his family without an iota of doubt and the assailants would be arrested soon.
