Ludhiana, August 4

A city-based businessman allegedly died of drug overdose today. His body was found in his car, parked at Chak Swaran Nath on Chandigarh road.

The deceased has been identified as Vishal Khera, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Bhamian road. On the basis of the statement of his father, a case of culpable homicide has been registered against Harjit Singh of Moti Nagar and Samrat alias Mithu of BK Estate.

Complainant Prem Khera told the police that he owns a sticker factory and on July 30, his son Vishal had gone to the unit but he did not return home. When they started searching for him, his car was traced to Chandigarh road and he was found lying unconscious in the car. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Khera said he had three sons of whom Vishal was the eldest. He was married and had a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

“The accused intentionally gave an overdose of drugs to my son and instead of taking him to the hospital, they kept roaming on the road. When he died, they left him in the car and fled,” Khera alleged.

Had the accused taken his son to the hospital on time, he would have survived, the father rued.

Investigation officer ASI Hazoor Singh said Harjit, who also owns a sticker factory, was a friend of Vishal while Samrat was unknown to him.

Vishal and Harjit were drug addicts and earlier too, Vishal had once taken an overdose due to which he had undergone treatment. But this time, Vishal could not survive.
