Ludhiana, January 21

Ludhiana residents are all set to celebrate the consecration of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on the lines of Diwali. In fact, many people are referring to the event as ‘Badi Diwali’. City markets are adorned with lights and the skyline has turned saffron, with flags flying atop buildings.

The demand for flowers has gone up, and so have the prices. The flower market of Ludhiana is flooded with orders as people are buying flowers in huge quantities. Surinder Saini, president of Flower Market, Ludhiana, said when it comes to demand for flowers, the occasion is turning out to be bigger than Diwali. “Not only the temples, people are also buying flowers to decorate their houses,” he said.

Sakshi Gupta, her husband Atul Gupta and their children were buying marigold flowers. “We will be decorating our house like we do on Diwali. The entire nation is enthusiastic about this event, and so are we! We are eagerly waiting for tomorrow,” said Sakshi.

Another city resident, Kishwar, said that she plans to decorate her house with lights and flowers. “It is a big occasion as the consecration of Ram Mandir will mark an end to a 500-year wait,” she said.

City sweet-makers are ready with large quantities of their products. “I have received orders for laddoos and prepared them in bulk for the day as people would celebrate the occasion with sweets,” he said.

In addition, Lord Rama’s cut-outs and flags bearing images of the new temple are also being sold. Flags emblazoned with the slogan ‘Jai Sri Ram’ are also going off the shelves. The demand for saffron kurtas and shawls has also increased.
