Man gets 10-yr jail for kidnap, rape



Ludhiana, February 18

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Tarntaran Singh Bindra has convicted Santosh Kumar (23), a resident of Dussehra Groud area, Sahnewal, on the charge of kidnapping a minor girl (16) on the pretext of marriage, and raping her.

He was ordered to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years. Divulging the details, Additional Public Prosecutor BD Gupta apprised that a case against the accused was registered at Division No. 4 police station on April 25, 2017, on a complaint by the mother of the victim girl.

The complainant had told the police that her daughter worked as maid in a house at Haibowal Kalan. Her daughter had gone to drop her employer’s children at a tuition centre. But she did not return. It was alleged that the accused had lured her into accompany him to somewhere on the pretext of marrying her.

During investigation, the police arrested the accused and recovered the girl from his possession. The girl had said she was raped.

The girl deposed against the accused and reiterated the allegation of rape. — OC
