If revelations made during the investigations by the Haryana police are to be believed, the region is witnessing the establishment of a ‘chor market’ for stock and sale of stolen goods, including auto parts, tyres and vehicles.

Residents of distant localities have started visiting the local markets for purchase of old vehicles and other parts at throwaway prices from scrap stores of the area.

Acknowledging the observations, police officials of the area, accompanied by a Haryana police party, revealed that vehicles and goods stolen from neighbouring states were disposed of at various workshops and scrap stores of the region for resale.

While scrap stores at Malaudh Kup Road have been frequently raided in connection with investigation of car theft cases, some workshops of Ahmedgarh were also searched for recovery of Apollo Tyres worth Rs 10 lakh, pilfered from Haryana. The Saha (Ambala) police had identified a local person for in an FIR registered under the Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code recently.

Investigations also revealed that members of notorious inter-state gangs of vehicle thieves had been bringing stolen vehicles to certain scarp dealers of Bazigar Basti situated on Kup Road on the outskirts of Malaudh town as parts can be dismantled quickly here. However, the state police are yet to ascertain the modus operandi of scrap dealers and vehicles thieves.

Saha SHO Chandar Bhan said they came to know that local persons were involved in theft of vehicles from Haryana. “We have information about the sale of stolen vehicles in this area. We are working on the recovery of Apollo tyres worth Rs 10 lakh pilfered from our area. We also have sought the help of Ahmedgarh police to nab of one of the accomplices of main accused Charan Preet of Rama Mandi,” said the SHO.
