Sangrur girls overpower Ludhiana in cliffhanger

LUDHIANA:Hosts Ludhiana waged a spirited battle against Sangrur before losing 5-6 in the girls U-19 section in the kho-kho event during the 64th Punjab Inter-District Schools Games being held at Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar and Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, here on Wednesday.

Hosts Ludhiana waged a spirited battle against Sangrur before losing 5-6 in the girls U-19 section in the kho-kho event during the 64th Punjab Inter-District Schools Games being held at Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar and Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, here on Wednesday.

Ferozepur fought it tooth and nail to outperform Jalandhar 7-6 to secure the third rank. In the boys’ section, Faridkot blanked Mohali 12-0; Mansa drubbed Ferozepur 10-2; Hoshiarpur defeated Tarn Taran 11-3; Ropar beat Barnala 13-8; Amritsar outplayed Pathankot 11-1; Kapurthala prevailed over Nawanshahr 8-7; Ludhiana routed Moga 14-2; Jalandhar got the better of Bathinda 19-14; Mansa overwhelmed Mohali 15-3; Ferozepur thrashed Faridkot 10-0; Barnala outclassed Pathankot 9-2; Amritsar outperformed Ropar 9-5; Jalandhar beat Hoshairpur 7-1; Bathinda outplayed Tarn Taran 8-2; Patiala defeated Muktsar 9-2; Moga outnumbered Nawanshahr 11-7 and Ludhiana pipped Kapurthala 11-3 to qualify for the knock-out phase.

Bikram Bhanot, Assistant Education Officer, Ludhiana, was the guest of honour. Others present on this occasion included Ajit Pal Singh, Dalvinder Singh, Makhan Singh Sahnewal, Principal Aradhna Nanda, Principal Kamaljeet Kaur, Gian Singh, Malwinder Singh Sekhon, Jasvir Kaur, Kesar Singh and Sukhwinder Singh.
