Unions working for labourers have sought help from the government and the administration in filling out forms for seeking permission to travel to their native places in other states.

President of Textile Hosiery Kamgaar Union of Punjab Rajwinder said many labourers wanted to visit their home states but they did not know how to fill out the form online. Only a few of them could fill out such forms on their own, he said.

“We appeal to the government and the district administration to form special teams to help the labourers fill out their forms so that they can travel to their native places without facing any hurdle,” he said.

A migrant worker said: “I don’t know how to fill out the form online. I request the district administration to help the persons like me to fill out the form. Due to curfew/lockdown, I have been rendered jobless. I used to tend to plants and gardens in houses. However, I have not been working for the past one month. Now, I want to visit my village in Uttar Pradesh.”

Jasmeet of the Karkhana Mazdoor Union said: “A number of labourers are illiterate. Many do not have smart phones or computers. They can’t fill out the form to get permission to visit their home state.”

On May 1, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said the migratory workers stuck in the city could apply at www.covidhelp.punjab.gov.in and the link of this facility has also been added in the COVA

mobile app.
