Ludhiana, February 26

Almost three days after thieves stole Rs 4.56 lakh in cash from the LIC agent’s office in Sundar Nagar, the Daresi police solved the case with the arrest of two persons, including husband of one of the employees, working at same office.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Raman Kumar Khosla (42), a resident of Balmik Nagar, and Toman, alias Tinku (26), a resident of Sundar Nagar.

Additional DCP-1 Gurpreet Singh Sikand, ACP Anil Kohli and the SHO, Daresi, Vijay Kumar Sharma, held a press conference on the matter today. Addressing mediapersons ADCP Sikand said on February 23 Sunil Kumar, who runs the LIC office, had informed the police that someone had stolen Rs 4.56 lakh from his office safe. Thieves had not broken the safe locks, the ADCP-1 said. Rather locks were opened with keys, the ADCP-1 added.

The SHO, Daresi, Vijay Kumar, initiated a probe during which two suspects were identified as Raman Kuman Khosla and Toman, the ADCP-1 said.

Raman’s wife Renu worked was the same LIC office, the ADCP-1 added. Also, Raman collected LIC premium for the same office, the ADCP-1 said while adding that his wife was not aware about her husband’s plan.

“About 10 days ago, suspect Raman, who used to visit the LIC office frequently, had taken main shutter’s key along to the market and got duplicate keys prepared. After preparing keys the same day he left original keys at the LIC office. On February 23, he went to the office, opened locks and decamped with cash from the safe,” the ADCP-1 said.

With the arrest of the suspects, Rs 4.26 lakh was recovered, the ADCP-1 added. Balance amount of Rs 30,000 was yet to be recovered in the case, the ADCP-1 said.
