In a major embarrassment to the Congress on the eve of the Delhi MC elections, party's state women's wing chief Barkha Shukla Singh quit her post and attacked the leadership of vice-president Rahul Gandhi, saying he shied away from meeting people who question him. Moments later, All India Mahila Congress chief Shobha Oza said the party had removed Barkha from her position.

“Why does Rahul Gandhu shy away from meeting people who ask him questions? He is only interested in meeting sycophants and not leaders who reason, question and ask,” she said, blaming Gandhi for party's rot.

In a statement today, the former MLA from Delhi's RK Puram and ex-chief of the Delhi Commission for Women said, “Senior party leaders, I would not like to name anybody, are also of the view that Rahul Gandhi is mentally unfit to lead the party, but choose not to say it because of reasons unknown to me.”

Hitting out at Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, Barkha said she was resigning as Delhi Mahila Congress chief as she was unable to help even herself, what to talk of others.

“I am a loyal soldier of the party and will continue to remain that. But in the current organisation where I am myself unsafe, how will I empower women. That is why I am resigning from my post,” she said.

She spoke of how five district presidents and 75 block presidents of the Delhi Mahila Congress had resigned in the recent past due to “the attitude of Rahul Gandhi and Ajay Maken”.

Accusing Maken of misbehaving with women's wing workers often, she said when it was complained to Rahul Gandhi, he did not bother to address it. “Rahul Gandhi and Ajay Maken have only used the issue of women empowerment and security to gather votes and it means nothing to them,” she said.
