An incident of fire was reported on board India’s lone operational aircraft carrier on Wednesday, off Karwar on the west coast.

The warship, a 47,000-tonne behemoth, was out at sea on a planned sortie for conduct of trials at sea after its re-fit, a periodic overhaul.

An incident of fire was reported onboard INS Vikramaditya today, the Indian Navy said. The fire was brought under control by the ship’s crew using onboard fire fighting systems. No casualties have been reported.

A board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident.
