Patiala, April 10
The CIA branch of the district police arrested six persons alleged to be members of an inter-state gang of robbers. A team led by the CIA in-charge, Shaminder Singh, arrested the suspects.
Shaminder Singh said a car and sharp-edged weapons had been recovered from their possession. The suspects have been identified as Sagar, Shalu, Akbar, Balwinder Singh, Sikander Ram and Ranhi.
“They were arrested on April 5 from Devigarh Road near the Jorria area of Sanaur and taken into police remand till April 10,” said Shaminder Singh.
“They have committed thefts in many towns of the state and Himachal Pradesh. A team led by CIA sub-inspector Justin Sadiq received a tip-off about the gang members, that they were planning another theft in Patiala,” he said.
“During the investigation, the suspects confessed to have hidden some stolen items that were later recovered by the police,” said a police official. These gang members mainly targeted electrical and sanitary shops in Rajpura, Patiala, Ludhiana, Talwara, and Bhawanigarh.
