Patiala, January 15

Punjabi University and the Punjab Police have signed an MoU to promote research and development and consultancy in the areas of usage of Punjabi on computers and natural language processing.

The university will provide consultancy to the Punjab Police for development of software for fuzzy and flexible code mixed query searching for English and Punjabi as a web-based service to Crime and Criminal Tracking and Network System (CCTNS). Dr Gurpreet Singh Lehal, Director, Research Centre for Technical Development of Punjabi, said besides delivering consultancy and providing support for its existing research and technology to Punjab Police, the university will also promote usage of unicode-based Punjabi software in offices of the Punjab Police.
