Kolkata, July 4

The Shillong Municipal Board would soon issue a fresh public notice to Sikh residents of Punjabi Lane area, giving them 30 days to provide proof regarding possession of land or buildings in the area.

Meghalaya Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong disclosed this after a meeting of the high-level committee, constituted in June last year after violent clashes between Sikhs and local Khasis.  The deadline of an earlier notice expired on Wednesday. Tynsong said none of the residents complied and not paying heed to the new notice would amount to contempt of court. — TNS
