High Court stays ration depots allocation in Amritsar

Chandigarh, January 15

Issuing notice of motion to the State of Punjab, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today stayed the ration depots allocation process in Amritsar district. The direction came after the Bench was told applications were being invited for allocation without providing for reservation.

The matter was brought to the HC’s notice after a petition was filed against the state and other respondents by Ransher Singh and other petitioners through counsel Sukhandeep Singh.

Appearing before Justice Rajbir Sehrawat’s Bench through videoconferencing, Sukhandeep Singh submitted on the petitioners’ behalf that the state had taken a policy decision to provide reservation during the allocations of ration depots for the Scheduled Castes/Backward Classes/ex-servicemen and other categories. But the state, vide the impugned notice, was inviting applications without providing for any reservation. — TNS
