Ropar, February 4

A 25-year-old youth was killed while his two friends got injured when their car, after hitting a barricade put up at a construction site of a flyover, fell into a ditch early this morning here. The deceased has been identified as Akshit Bhalla, a resident of Ludhiana.

According to the police, Akshit was driving the car and his friend Piyush Goyal, also from Ludhiana, and another friend from Mohali, were going to Manali. Due to rain in the morning, he failed to notice a road diversion at the construction site of a flyover near Gurdwara Bhatha Sahib and hit barricades put up for diversion following which the speeding car fell into a ditch.

While Akshit died in the accident, the other two suffered minor injuries, said Ropar SHO Harsh Mohan Gautam. The body was handed over to the relatives after postmortem.
