With intent to enable the youth of the district to have access to latest published literature in subjects of their choice, the Malerkotla district administration has initiated a process for setting up 13 libraries in the district, including one at the district headquarters.
Grant amount of Rs 4 crore has been earmarked for the proposed library, site for which is yet to be finalised, whereas libraries at Mubarakpur, Dasaundha Singh Wala, Kalyan, Ahmedpur, Adampal, Sandaur, Kup Kalan, Jandali Kalan, Rurki Kalan, Kanganwal, Bhari Mansa and Banbhaura villages will be setup at estimated cost of Rs 4.20 crore.
Deputy Commissioner Pallavi said that the process for setting up a chain of thirteen libraries had been initiated with laying of foundation stone of a library at Sant Baba Attar Singh College at Sandaur by Malerkotla MLA Zamil Ur Rehman.
“Having initiated process for construction of library at Sandaur, we have advised concerned officials to ensure that available resources are utilised in most conservative manner,” said DC Pallavi.
MLA Zamil Ur Rehman said the initiative to set up libraries across the state would play an important role in preparing the youth of the state for competitions at national and international level. “Once they (youth) start reading books available in these libraries, their future is bound to be brighter as they will be able to prove their worth in competitive exams,” the MLA added.
