Mohali, February 11

While the Mohali Municipal House is about to dissolve any day now, the SAD-BJP councillors are upset over delaying nearly 200 development works by the authorities.

The councillors alleged that works were being delayed intentionally as local Congress leaders wanted to take all credits of these works later.

Local SAD councillor Paramjit Singh Kahlon claimed that the development works worth around Rs 9 crore had been kept pending. “All these works were approved by the House long ago. Now, tenders of these works are not being opened. It’s an open secret that local Congress leaders are behind this dirty politics as they want to get all these works done after dissolution of the House so that they (Congress) can take credit of the development here,” Kahlon alleged.

Echoing the same sentiments, BJP councillor Arun Sharma alleged that due to the dirty politics by the Congress, local residents had been suffering. “The main development works included maintenance of public parks and installation of open gyms there, paver blocks work in several areas, maintenance of sewer lines, road repair, etc. Apparently, the MC authorities are not showing any interest in getting these works done despite the fact that several protests have been staged against the delay of these projects so far,” Sharma rued.

Refuting all allegations, Congress councillor Kuljit Singh Bedi claimed that the development works were being done in the town at their pace. “The Opposition councillors have been unnecessarily making hue and cry in this connection. In fact, they want to take credit for these works. Our party always works in larger interests of the public. The House is all set to dissolve soon, but all pending works will be done well in time,” Bedi said.
