Two nabbed for liquor smuggling



Ludhiana: The Koom Kalan police have booked Deepak Narula of Bahini Doaba village for liquor smuggling under sections 61/1/14 Excise Act. The police said on a tip-off, a police party raided his residence and recovered 10 cases of whisky hidden in the household items. Deepak, however, escaped. In another case, the police arrested a woman and Deepak, both residents of EWS Colony on Tajpur Road, for liquor smuggling. The duo, along with their woman accomplice, has been booked under sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act. They were selling countrymade liquor on Tajpur Road on Sunday when a police party caught them in the act and recovered four cases of liquor from them. OC

Minor girl, boy go missing

Ludhiana: Om Veer, a resident of Bhamian Road, has reported to the police that his 13-year-old daughter had been missing for the past two days. The complainant said the girl had left her aunt's house in Guru Nanak Nagar on Tajpur Road in the afternoon on Feb 21 saying that she was going back home, but she didn't reach home. The complainant suspected that Khani of Sarpanch Colony might be behind the girl's abduction. The police have registered a case under sections 363/366-A. Sandeep Kaumr (15), a student of class VIII and resident of Guru Har Rai Nagar, was reported missing since Saturday. His father Lachman Mahto told the police that the boy did not return home from tuition. OC

One arrested with heroin

Ludhiana: The PAU police have nabbed Ansaru Ansari, a resident of Phullanwal, for drug peddling and a case under sections 22/61/85 NDPS Act has been registered against him. A police party apprehended him with 5-gram heroin while he was waiting for customers near Sai Dham on Hambran Road. OC

7 in police net for gambling

Ludhiana: The Haibowal police have arrested six persons, identified as Suresh Mathur, Rajesh Kaura, Darshan Kumar, Amandeep, Dharminder Kumar and Raj Kumar, under sections 13/3/67 of the Gambling Act. The police said the accused persons were gambling (dara-satta) at Sandhu Colony on Sunday. Two packs of cards and Rs 44,290 in cash were recovered from them. In another case, the Tibba police arrested Rajinder Kumar of Company Bagh for operating "dara-satta" at his shop near Decent School. The police recovered Rs 1,970 and other incriminating material. Cops nab five drug peddlers

Mandi Ahmedgarh: The Dehlon police have nabbed five persons involved in drug peddling. The cops recovered 30-kg poppy husk from their possession. The suspects have been identified as Sandeep Singh Kala of Khanpur, Paramjit Singh Pamma of Jand, Kaka Singh, Bhola Singh Keeru and Gurjit Singh Bamiri, both residents of Janta colony. Investigation Officer Subash Kataria said the got a tip-off that the suspects used to provide drugs to farmers and labourers in the area. A police team lead by Sub-Inspector Jatinder Kaur Jassowal nabbed the suspects when they were going to deliver a consignment in an XUV bearing a registration number PB-19-6262 on the outskirts of Dehlon village on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road. oc

Three held with 80-gm heroin

Khanna: The police have claimed to nab three persons and recover 80-gm heroin from them. The suspects have been identified as Ajay Kumar, Manish Kumar and Sushant Kumar, all residents of Himachal Pradesh. Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police Harpreet Singh said a police team under the command of Khanna SP(I) JS Cheema and Doraha SHO DP Singh laid a naka near the first aid post on the GT road. He said the policemen signalled a black colour car to stop. During checking, the cops recovered 80-gm heroin from the dashboard of the car. The Senior Superintendent of Police said a case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the trio. As per preliminary investigation, the suspects had brought the consignment from Delhi and were going to sell it in Ludhiana. The trio was presented before a court, which sent them to one-day police remand. OC

Youth dies in road mishap

Jalandhar: A college student died in a road accident due to overspeeding on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The deceased has been identified as Sambhav Chopra (20). As per information, the son of a businessman, Sambhav’s car hit a transformer and he died on the spot. The victim was on his way to the city after attending a wedding. OC
