Amritsar, December 8

Eight persons were booked on the charge of attempt to murder after they allegedly stabbed a man, leaving him critically injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday while a case was registered on Saturday after the victim was fit for giving his statement.

Among those booked were identified as Harjit Singh, German Singh and Malkeet Singh, all residents of Nangal village in Ajnala, besides five unknown persons.

The victim Rajesh Kumar, a resident of ward number 11 of Ajnala, stated to the police that at around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, his son Himanshu, along with his friend Pankaj, went to Dera Baba Nanak Road for some domestic work. He said the accused, who were in inebriated condition, started abusing and entered into an altercation with him.

Rajesh said he was standing near a sweet shop and on seeing this he came to the stop and urged the accused to refrain from this. He said instead of stopping, Harjit Singh hit a datar on his head while German Singh and Malkeet stabbed him with some sharp weapon. As he fell on the road after sustaining grievous injuries, the accused fled the scene. Rajesh said his son along with several shopkeepers took him to the Ajnala Civil Hospital from where he was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.

Sub-Inspector Nishan Singh said the police had registered a case for murder bid and causing grievous hurt against the suspects while raids were on to nab them. He said the accused had reportedly fled their homes since the incident.
