Amritsar, August 13

Partap Singh (40), a resident of Guru Nanak Pura, was shot dead by two persons here late on Sunday evening. His mother Dalbir Kaur and wife Simranjit Kaur also sustained bullet injuries. They were rushed to a hospital for treatment. The police have booked a suspect, Simranjit Singh, and his unknown accomplices. No arrest has been made so far.

The accused is the brother-in-law of his sister Harneet Kaur. Harneet had lodged a police complaint against her in-laws, accusing them of harassing her, a month ago. Though a compromise was struck, Simranjit kept a grudge against Harneet and her family members.

On Sunday, he along with several armed persons turned up at Partap's house and had a scuffle with the victims. Simranjit fired several shots. Two of them hit Partap Singh's chest, killing him on the spot. Dalbir Kaur and Simranjit Kaur also sustained bullet injuries.

Kot Khalsa SHO Harjinder Kumar said the police recovered an empty shell and two cartridges from the spot. He said these would be sent for forensic examination.
