Three arrested with 500-gm heroin

AMRITSAR: The Amritsar rural police have nabbed three “drug traffickers” and confiscated 500-gm heroin from them.

The Amritsar rural police have nabbed three “drug traffickers” and confiscated 500-gm heroin from them. The seized contraband’s international market value is said to be Rs 2.50 crore.

They were arrested at a checkpoint near Dehriwal village, falling under Tarsikka police station. A case under Sections 21, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them.

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal, in a statement issued here on Saturday, said those arrested had been identified as Judgebir Singh of Ekalgadda village in Tarn Taran, Harpreet Singh of Dhudike village in Moga and Varinder Singh of Devidaspura village.

They were produced in the court and taken on a three-day police remand for further interrogation. The accused were travelling in a car (PB46U4761) which has also been impounded. The SSP said that further investigation was under way to ascertain the source of the contraband besides the antecedents of the accused.

Meanwhile, in another incident, the police nabbed Dilbagh Singh of Rania village, located near the Pakistan border, with eight-gm heroin. A case has been registered against him. — TNS

3-day remand

The police produced Judgebir Singh, Harpreet Singh and Varinder Singh in a court and took them on a three-day remand for further interrogation. Their car (PB46U4761) has also been impounded.
