In a major breakthrough, the Civil Lines police today nabbed two vehicle thieves identified as Lovepreet Singh alias Happy and Navjot Singh Joti. The police have recovered seven stolen motorcycle from their possession.

During their interrogation, the police got names of a number of thieves who were a part of their gang and were involved in many snatching instances.

Giving details, BK Singla, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), North, said that a police team had put up a naka near Rose Garden. They intercepted a motorcycle being driven by the duo. During inquiry, the registration number of the bike was found to be fake. They later confessed that it was stolen one. Their interrogation led to the recovery of six more stolen bikes.

They used to steal motorcycles and later sold them. They would commit crimes of snatching on these motorcycles. Singla said Happy was also wanted in a murder case registered at the Kamboh police station in Amritsar rural police district.

He said that separate teams had been formed to arrest the thieves whose names had figured during the probe. A number of them used to live in the neighbouring districts and used to return to their native place after committing crimes.
