2 jail inmates caught with heroin

Amritsar, April 13

Central Jail authorities confiscated 4-gm heroin from an inmate, identified as Yodhbir Singh, alias Yodha, a resident of New Partap Nagar. Along with him, the police also booked Amrik Singh of the same locality who had come to meet him before the contraband was seized from his possession. Shamsher Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Amritsar Central Jail, said Amrik had come to meet Yodhbir Singh. After meeting him, Yodhvir was returning to his barrack when jail staff, during checking, found him possessing heroin.

The jail staff lodged a complaint with the Islamabad police which registered a case under Sections 21, 22, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act and Section 42 of the Prison Act against the two. Police authorities said raids were on to nab Amrik and an investigation was on to ascertain the source of the prohibited substance.

Meanwhile, in another seizure, jail staff seized 4-gm heroin from another prisoner, identified as Jeewan Singh, alias Jeena, of Chabal road. Assistant Superintendent Rawel Singh said the accused was taking some goods from the canteen to his barrack. On suspicion, guards searched him and found the contraband from his possession.
