Visitors are at the receiving end in the absence of proper signage in the city. They have to ask commuters frequently to reach their destinations.

Though there are direction boards installed on several roads, especially the newly-constructed ones, signage is either missing or not visible properly on a number of roads, said Prof Sandeep Kumar, a college lecturer.

Signboards have been installed by tourism officials in the past, but these are now eclipsed by encroachments.

Roshan Kumar Srivastav, a resident of Delhi who visited the city, said the authorities concerned had installed sign boards at major tourist and religious destinations, but the people coming from other districts or states do not know which road they should take to reach those places. I had to stop several times to ask pedestrians or shopkeepers before reaching the Lawrence road after reaching the bus stand.

The issue was also raised by several residents during police-public meetings.

“The problem is there and people have complained us. We will take up the issue with the authorities concerned,” said Police Commissioner SS Srivastava.
