The city police are all set to reopen the Alka murder case. The 25-year-old woman was murdered in a gruesome manner when she was alone at her home in Gulmohar Avenue on Majitha road on July 23, 2016.

She was living with her parents after separation from her husband a few months after marriage. Even after elapsing of such a long period, the police are yet to achieve any breakthrough as investigations hit a dead end.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), City –II, Lakhbir Singh, who rejoined the city police recently, has confirmed the move. He was the ADCP Crime when the murder took place. “I have sought the current status of the probe carried out so far,” he said.

The manner in which she was killed had shocked not only the residents but also the police officials who had carried out the investigation at the preliminary stage. Forensic experts too had expressed their shock over the brutality of the murderer.

Alka was alone at her home as her family had gone to some relative’s home in Majitha at the time of the incident.

The post-mortem examination revealed that she was first strangulated and then given electric shocks in various parts of the body, including her breasts and genital area. The police had also found a piece of paper stating “I miss you”. A chemical powder was also found from the spot, which was sent for examination.

The evidence found in the initial stages of investigations pointed towards the role of an insider, who might be known to the deceased, as there was no sign of forced entry. The police also retrieved the call details of the mobile phone of the victim and interrogated her distant relatives to find clues, but to no avail.

Due to Assembly polls and transfer of police officials, no progress could be made in the case.
