Car taken away from student at gunpoint

AMRITSAR: Several armed persons snatched a car from a student of Government Medical College here late on Tuesday evening.

Several armed persons snatched a car from a student of Government Medical College here late on Tuesday evening. The victim, Shivam, along with his friends was returning home after having dinner in Ranjit Avenue when the incident took place.

Shivam stated to the police that he along with his cousin Sumedh Luthra and friends Abhishek and Yogesh Sharma were returning in their white Honda City when a Baleno car hit their vehicle from the rear side near the power station in Ranjit Avenue at around 8.45 pm.

The moment they alighted, three unknown persons entered his car while pointing a pistol at them. When they tried to stop them, one of the accused fired two shots in the air.

According to Shivam, two mobile phones of his friends, his purse containing an identity card, Aadhaar card and his cousin’s purse containing cash Rs 3,000 and some documents were there in the car. The mobile phones were found abandoned on the Ajnala road.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Lakhbir Singh said they were scrutinising CCTV cameras located near the crime spot to get clues about the robbers. He said the victim had purchased the car around two months ago. He said further investigations were under way.

A case under Section 379- B (2) of the IPC and 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against unknown persons.
