Amritsar, February 11

Giani Kewal Singh, former Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, has appealed to the candidates contesting the elections for Chief Khalsa Diwan to refrain from conducting the poll process and choose the new body with mutual consent in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib.

Giani Kewal Singh, who is also the convener of the Panthic Talmel Sangathan, pointed out that as the day of poll drew nearer, the mudslinging by the contenders against their opponents was bringing disgrace to the sanctity of the century-old Sikh institution.

He suggested that in the interest of the community, the candidates should resolve their differences and choose the office-bearers harmoniously.

Chief Khalsa Diwanelections have been scheduled for February 17. The two groups have been contesting for six posts. As many as 398 members would cast their votes and the patit members have already been debarred from participating in the poll process.
