Amritsar, January 3

The 116-year-old socio-religious organisation, Chief Khalsa Diwan, is all set to hold its election after the ignominious exit of Charanjit Singh Chadha. Its executive committee will hold a meeting on January 10 to pave the way for the next election. Its general house, which has over 500 members, will meet on January 21. As per the CKD constitution, it is mandatory to hold election within 60 days after the post of president falls vacant.

The enraged members of the CKD had forcefully made CKD vice-president Dhanraj Singh as officiating head.

The CKD with an annual budget of over Rs 158 crore is operating about 50 schools, majority of them English medium, three colleges, two hospitals, an orphanage, an old age home, a gurdwara, a sarai (inn), Khalsa Parcharak Vidyala, a quarterly Punjabi magazine ‘Nirguniara’ and another Punjabi monthly ‘Khalsa Advocate’.

The CKD Charitable Society had expelled its disgraced president Charanjit Singh Chadha and his son Inderpreet Singh Chadha (vice-president) on December 30 after a “sleazy” video showing the former head with a woman in a compromising position went viral.

Then, the woman lodged a police complaint against Charanjit Chadha, accusing him of “compelling her to make physical relations”. She also added that Inderpreet threatened her on phone.

Following this, a three-member Special Investigation Team was formed under ADCP (Crime) Harjit Singh Dhaliwal for probe.
